For years I have begged and pleaded with many, if not all of the custom suit brands you have read about here on The Fine Young Gentleman, to offer their suits in a fresco fabric. In the past I have waxed poetic on the virtues of fresco so I won’t bore you with that again. As that is not the most important matter at hand. What is important is that my calls have been heeded. And Black Lapel has answered with action.

Writing a menswear blog encourages exploration of bold patterns and colors, but when I need to look my best for a big day, I turn to an essential staple — a sharp, cool gray suit. At least I did, until it ripped — badly — at a conference. Thank goodness for online custom tailor Black Lapel.

As we approach summer, now is a great time to start contemplating the transition of your wardrobe from heavier to lighter fabrics.

Below are my thoughts of the brand and their product.

It has been a year and a half since I first reviewed Black Lapel. Which in terms of the online made to measure suiting industry, which is still in its infancy, is a very long time. There has been a steady influx of new players and the steady growth of old players; Black Lapel belongs in the latter category in case you were wondering. The prices (at Black Lapel and elsewhere) have pretty much stayed constant but the expectations of consumers have gone up; reasonably so. Fortunately, the level of quality of fabrics, construction, fit and customer service has also gone up. And most fortunately for Black Lapel, they are still one of the brands at the front of the pack.
